About You

Age: 41

Gender: Male

Country & Region: UK, London

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your Character

Character Name Please include all details of name, race and server changes: failure to do so will lead to your application being declined:

Jast, Draenei monk, currently on Saurfang.

Level: 90

Class: Monk

Spec: Mistweaver

Played Time: 5 days, 12 hours

Achievement Points: 3075

Is this your main character? Yes

Alts Please list ALL alts regardless of level, including name, race, class, level and guild:

My characters span EU and US servers. I give a fuller explanation of this at the end of the application.

EU:
Keene (Gnome mage, 85), Saurfang, Guild: The Hedgehogs of Bernard (formerly on Aszune)
Denn (Night elf priest, 70), Eonar, unguilded
Tewth (Gnome warlock, 66), Eonar, unguilded

US:
Allendale (Worgen mage, 90), Aerie Peak US, unguilded. (Formerly: Whifferdill (Goblin mage), Jubei’thos Oceanic)
Gufoni (Tauren druid, 85), Earthen Ring US, Guild: The Scouts of Khydius (formerly Alea Iacta Est)
Fellows (Undead priest, 90), Earthen Ring US, Guild: The Scouts of Khydius (formerly Alea Iacta Est)
Casp (Tauren paladin, 90), Earthen Ring US, Guild: The Scouts of Khydius (formerly Alea Iacta Est)

Previous guilds: Please list all the guilds you have been a member of, you may wish use http://www.warcraftrealms.com/charhistory.php as a starting point, especially where there have been name, faction and realm changes. We will check this, don't leave anything out or it reflects negatively on your application

EU:
Jast has only ever been in The Hedgehogs of Bernard.
Keene was a member of a guild called The British Knights on Aszune, but the guild collapsed prior to the launch of The Burning Crusade.
Denn was a member of Scale Wardens on Eonar; this guild broke up during The Burning Crusade.
Tewth was a member of the Torchwood guild on Eonar; I was gkicked due to inactivity.

US:
Gufoni, Fellows and Casp were all members of Alea Iacta Est. I took a break from the game towards the beginning of Cataclysm; at the start of MoP, a small group of my friends decided to set out on our own, and so joined The Scouts of Khydius. The Scouts started to drift away from the game a few months after this, leading to my abandonment of the US servers. (More info on this below.)
I rolled Allendale to play with a friend on Jubei’thos, towards the end of Cataclysm. During this time, I raided Firelands and Dragon Soul regularly – but although I generally work at home, the time difference (I had to raid in the middle of my day) was ultimately unworkable.

Tuesday 21:00 CET until 23.30
Wednesday 21:00 CET until 23.30
Thursday 21:00 CET until 23.30
Friday 21:00 CET until 00:00
Saturday 20:30 CET until 00:00
Sunday 20:30 CET until 23.30
- I do not currently have any commitments which would interfere with any of these times!

Why did you chose your current spec?
I have enjoyed healing in the past, and I wanted to see how Mistweaving differs from other classes. I also like the aesthetics of the mists themselves! :)

Tell us a little about your spell/shot/melee rotation & general play style in a raid/dungeon/group situation. (You may link stats websites such as WoL in support of your application)

General group healing: Keep Renewing Mist up as much as possible. In a five-player dungeon, this generally means everyone has it all the time. Boost healing with Uplift (or Thunder Focus Tea + Uplift) as necessary. (I tend to use Uplift even when it's not strictly necessary, if I'm sure my Chi won't be needed for anything else in the immediate future, so I can build up my stacks of Mana Tea.) In an LFR, it's a game of getting Renewing Mist on as many people as possible, through smart Thunder Focus Tea use. I generally use Soothing Mist as a top-up when necessary.

Single-target. I make sure Jade Serpent Statue is down, then I channel the tank with Soothing Mist. (If I'm in an LFR, I will switch my Soothing Mist to whichever tank currently has the most aggro.) If there is no obvious ongoing damage, I will save my mana - or use that time to drink Mana Tea. At times of high damage, I will boost healing with Surging Mist and Enveloping Mist. Non-tanks tend to get a blast of Soothing Mist and then a gradual fill-up with Renewing Mist + Uplift.

Choose THREE of the following which best describes your usual WOW week. Delete those which do NOT apply

- Looking for group instances
- Spamming Looking for Raid
- Social questing with guild mates

Which of your achievements in WoW are you the most proud of, and why? *This does not have to be a recognised Blizzard acheivement - it could just be the slog of levelling from 1 - 85, or looting an item you have farmed for a long time*

This would be a toss-up between my Lich King kill and my Heroic Morchok kill. The Lich King kill came at the end of an expansion full of raiding with a mostly stable raid team (though I missed out on most of Trial of the Crusader), so it felt like the culmination of all our hard work over the whole expansion. My Heroic Morchok kill was my first heroic boss kill (Gunship in ICC barely counts!), and I've never felt more triumphant! The weeks leading up to that, where I figured out how to get the most out of my mage and really push his DPS, were very rewarding.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Stuff

Do you know an existing member of the Highland Warriors? If so, who: for how long, and how do you know them?
I do not know anyone!

Why do you want to join the Highland Warriors?
I miss being in a guild that does stuff together - even if that's just chatting! I also miss regularly raiding; I am not yet sure whether it's something I want to wholly leap into again, but I would enjoy being part of a group who enjoy that playstyle. I also appreciate how 'seriously' the Warriors take their play: I know it's just a game, but I also know that, when it comes to serious raiding, you get the best results when you apply yourselves.

How will you improve yourself as a Highland Warrior?
I always aim to keep up to date with developments in the game and the classes I play; this would continue. I would like to feel like I am always learning how to make the very best out of my character, and would strive to play to the best of my abilities in an environment where that would be appreciated - and where I can hopefully learn from others too!

Anything extra you would like to tell us about yourself?

I played on the EU servers since shortly after launch. A few months prior to moving to the US for a year, towards the end of The Burning Crusade, I switched to the US servers. It was on those servers that I have had most of my raiding experience. I moved back to the UK in 2009 and continued to play on the US and Oceanic servers for some time. Recently, with most of my US friends no longer playing the game to any great degree, my partner and I decided to open up our EU accounts again. I have missed actually playing the game with people, and the time zone difference had a detrimental effect on my enjoyment of the game.

The decision to move back was not easy (I did more things, made more friends, and achieved more in game in the US than I ever had in the UK), but I was not enjoying feeling ‘isolated’ in WoW. Since my return to the EU servers, I have enjoyed feeling ‘in sync’ with the game again. I now just need to find a guild that I feel similarly synced to!

I had hopes my current guild, Hedgehogs of Bernard, would be a chatty, active guild, as they advertised, but I have not found that to be the case. I really hope to find a guild where I can *do* things with people again, appreciate the game in the ways I enjoy the most, and Highland Warriors looks like it is in line with what I like in a guild.

With all that in mind, I have presented my EU and US toons. I have included armory links for Jast and Allendale below. (The armory fails to find my other US toons, due to inactivity, but you can get a sense of my achievements from Allendale.) The link to Jast doesn't really tell you a great deal about my involvement with the game. I think Allendale's achievements are more illuminating!

Hi Jast,

Firstly this is a very good application, very detailed which is nice to see.

You have quite a history playing on the US and Oceanic servers too. Since these are inactive accounts we will not worry about those but with regards to your Eu alts what are you plans with these? Also you mention your partner are they planning to apply here too?

Lastly out of curiosity how does playing on the US servers compare to the EU ones?

I plan to get Keene, the mage, to 90 and then just potter through some LFRs with him. The others... I am a little up-in-the-air about them for the moment, to be honest. I listed them for completeness more than anything. Over time, I am sure I will level them up (or pay to boost them to 90!) - I enjoy the priest class an awful lot, so it'd be nice to get Denn up and running again.

I would like to have a small handful of max-level toons, all LFR-geared. I like having options! I would like to have a little roster of toons that might be able to fill any spots that need filling, really. Or a little something for whatever mood I'm in. :)

I also miss having maxed out professions on a few toons, like I had in the US. I like being self-reliant - and able to help others out with mats and whatever.

In terms of *where* my alts go, I guess it would depend whether I'm a fit for the guild. If it all works out, I will definitely have no problem bringing them all to this server and pooling them all in the guild.

And yes, my partner is intending to apply too. I'm sure he'll sort it out in a day or two!

Lastly out of curiosity how does playing on the US servers compare to the EU ones?

I'd honestly say that players over here seem more skilled, believe it or not, and more... daredevil? I see behaviour in LFD groups that just would not have flown in the US: *really* speedy runs (without checking with other group members first), HUGE pulls. I know I kind of missed the middle chunk of this expansion, and so people now are way better geared than at the start and so able to be a bit more cavalier in dungeons, but there is definitely something else to it. I thought random PUGs in the US were wham-bam-thank-you-maam... but in the EU, they are seriously speedy. It's a very unforgiving playstyle. It doesn't give much slack for noobies or the undergeared. People just expect others' skill level to be high, almost flawless. It was a little bit of a shock to the system, to be honest! :D

I don't want to overstate it, and maybe a lot of it is down to the level of gear now compared to then, but I honestly think folk in the EU are just better at the game and expect better of the people they play with.

Ok just so we are clear we are not an alt guild while we appreciate that moving characters across realms is costly we expect the majority of your play time in Highland Warriors

I understand that completely. I am keen to find 'the' guild for me, and want that to be where I spend my in-game time. Splitting focus between guilds is definitely something that doesn't interest me! :)

Edit: To be honest, I think the only toons I'd want to move over would be Jast and Keene. Depending on the cost of the boost to 90, it may be more economical (and saner!) to roll whatever other toons I want right on Thunderhorn.

y partner and I decided to open up our EU accounts again

just to chip in here. If you were to get in, and stay, would your partner also apply, and if so, do we assume its a 2 package deal? I ask because if thats the case it would be better for everyone if both were done at the same time. Makes everything clearer upfront and less possible risk of wasted time later on if you're partner was not found compatible.

aside from that, good app, lots of info put forward which I like.

To be highly certain of something, with a very low order of evidence, or in contradiction to a mountain of evidence, is a sign that something is wrong with your mind.

Great! We'll make sure we're around for the end of your raid, 11.30 server time. I've made a toon called Strickson, so I'll be on him. Not sure as yet what Fallow's toon will be called, but we'll keep you posted. I look forward to chatting with you!
